Our Meeting House:
Rookhow is situated in the beautiful and secluded Rusland Valley between lakes Windermere and Coniston. It was built in 1725. It is within walking distance of Grizedale Forest, and with the Lakeland fells and lake shores a few minutes away.
Meeting for Worship:
Local Friends meet on the first Wednesday in the month – 7.30 to 8.00.
Tea, coffee and biscuits afterwards.
Open Days:
Rookhow is open for visitors on the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month, from 10am-4pm. People are welcome to pop in for a cuppa, look around and wander in the woods. There is a short Quaker Meeting on those days, 12.30-1pm.
The Bunkbarn and Quaker Wood
Rookhow also provides comfortable budget self-catering accommodation and meeting space in the English Lake District. The Bunkbarn (providing accommodation for up to 16 people), and Quakers’ Wood – 12 acres of mature mixed woodland.
The Bunkbarn, originally the stables, has 2 sleeping areas for up to 16 people: 8 bunks downstairs and 9 single/bunk beds upstairs.
Camping is permitted by arrangement for larger groups. The Bunkbarn has 4 showers, 2 WCs and 5 wash basins. The large common room is open plan with a kitchen, dining area and comfortable seating round a wood-burning stove. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric range (double oven), microwave, fridge-freezer, and double sink. There is electric heating throughout. The Bunkbarn does not have a TV, radio, telephone or internet, in keeping with the ‘away from it all’ peace and simplicity of Rookhow.
